Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the incident made him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
